Rick Vasquez currently serves as Assistant City Manager with the City of Garland. Rick began his career in municipal government in 1990 with the City of Laredo after earning a Masters of Community and Regional Planning at Texas A&M University in College Station. Originally from San Antonio, Rick has worked with both large and small local governments in the Rio Grande Valley, Central Texas, North Texas and the Gulf Coast.
Rick’s career is focused on creating municipal regulatory environments that facilitate economic development and growth in local communities.
Rick’s career in local government enabled him to develop expertise in the areas of land development, water utility management, federal housing program management, federal transportation planning and programming, tourism development and building design and construction.
Rick’s wife Theresa is an attorney and they have three children Loren, Ericka and Max.
Rick enjoys escaping to the Lower Laguna Madre to fish for trout, red-fish and flounder.
